Cheers! Drinks producers in spotlight at festival

Beer and cider makers will have an opportunity to showcase their products at the 2017 Longney Beer Festival.

As well as a selection of craft beers at the event, the first keg-only festival in the county, there will be a new craft cider offering.

This year's festival takes place on Saturday, 20 May at Yew Tree Farm in Longney, about 10 miles west of Stroud.

For the first time, festival goers will be offered Longney cider made from the Longney Russet apple.

Gloucestershire Orchard Trust took over the Long Tyning and Bollow orchards in Longney in 2015 and has made a good start on bringing these historic orchards back to health.

Working with Day's Cottage, another Stroud Farmer's market favourite, the trust has produced cider this year with the apples from the orchard.

Beard and Sabre Cider Company from Cirencester are providing four ciders, while Ragged Stone, who sell at the Stroud Farmer's market, are providing perry made from fermented pears.

All proceeds from the festival, which will also include live music and food, will go to Longney Primary Academy.
