Everest shuttered as administrators step in

Double glazing's household name Everest in the hands of administrators with the potential loss of 350 jobs.

The local outlet of Everest trades from The Oaks, in Abbeymead, but enquiries today from Punchline-Gloucester.com were met with an answerphone message and the business is listed on Google as 'permanently closed'.

It is unknown whether existing customer orders will be fulfilled, but industry comment online suggests householders will not be left in the lurch.

The brand originally founded 60 years ago and traded upon the hugely successful slogan "You only fit the best, fit Everest", but the business collapsed in 2020 and was bought by financier and turnaround investor Jon Moulton.

Mr Moulton's private equity firm Better Capital resurrected operations as Everest 2020 Ltd, saving 1,000 jobs in the process.

However, the impact of the Pandemic hamstrung the business model due to staff being unable to make house calls. It is also understood that Better Capital, which itself delisted from the stock market amid the repercussions of Covid-19, has been looking to wind down its portfolio, which since 2010 has included Rentokill, Jaeger, City Link and Reader's Digest.

A dedicated page on the website of ReSolve, who are restructurers and administrators, confirmed they have stepped in and said: "Chris Farrington, Cameron Gunn and Lee Manning of ReSolve Advisory Limited were appointed as Joint Administrators of Everest 2020 Limited on 24 April 2024." Creditors are being advised to email Resolve and have been told that a guidance FAQ will be issued shortly.

Information reported widely as a heads-up to potential investors and issued a few weeks ago said that Everest "requires an immediate funding injection to relieve creditor pressure which, combined with further significant investment in its marketing, systems and brand, can deliver increased market share, and a path to strong underlying profitability and growth".

● Everest was created by Londoner Lewis Golden, a veteran of WW2 who had fought at the Battle of Arnhem, where he commanded a sector of HQ's defences. He died aged 94 in 2017.
